Most of the FreshSurf guests come to Fuerteventura for surfing. However, it can also happen (very rarely) that there is no wave and the surf students have to look for an alternative. Stand-up paddling is definitely on top of the list of alternatives. In El Cotillo, the north of Fuerteventura, some lagoons are very nice for Stand-up paddling. We’ll tell you now, why we recommend stand-up paddling. It’s not just about spending time on the water, but it boots your balance and is the perfect body workout.
SUP comes from Hawaii – back in the ’60s and ’70s some of the surfer boays needed an extra alternative for getting quicker to their surf students. Right up there and among them was the surfer legend Laird Hamilton. It lasted a little longer until the trend sport came over to us, but now it spreads all over the world and SUP and it’s fans are everywhere: Not only on the lakes and rivers of the world, but also on the oceans. The Atlantic Ocean here at Fuerteventura and next to our surfschool is of course suitable for you, to try SUP or to improve your skills. But SUP is especially also suitable for those, who want to relax. Just grab up your board, the paddle and slide comfortably over the crystal clear lagoons of El Cotillo.
