Restaurant Guide for El Cotillo
Even if El Cotillo seems to be a very tiny fishing village, it offers a great variety of good restaurants. Here are a handful of tips from us:
- Before eating, bread and dips are often offered as an appetizer – sometimes they are for free, sometimes you have to pay for them! If you are not planning on getting up close to someone afterwards feel free to help yourself. Aioli (garlic sauce), Mojo Rojo (red pepper sauce with garlic) as well as Mojo Verde (garlic sauce with herbs and spices) are very well known Spanish specialties that everyone should try.
- When you’re finished with dinner, the waiter often brings a round of shots for the table for free. Normally, it’s Ron Miel (Honey Rum) which is typical for the Canary Islands and very sweet and delicous. Enjoy!
- After dinner it is common to pay together and split the amount between all the guests. Paying seperately is not usual.
- There’s no guideline for tips. Is it common to bring the amount up to a round figure, but feel free to tip what you think would be adequate.
Our restaurant tips for El Cotillo
We took our time to check the restaurants, cafés and bars in El Cotillo and try the different menus. Our favorite dishes and choices can be found on this page – that way you’ll find what you crave, no matter if it’s fresh fish, meat, vegetarian dishes, spanish Tapas or italian food.
El goloso – the french Bakery
The place for breakfast and tea-time: The French bakery in El Cotillo & Lajares. We love the breads, the croissants (almond and raspberry are our office girls’ favorites), the sandwiches, the coffee, and of course the gorgeous range of patisserie. I could eat here all day! Try the pretty little Cabrito goat biscuit – in the shape of the Fuerteventura goat symbol & filled with almond cream or the Trés chocolate tarte – divine!
For breakfast, they offer fresh juices, too, and definitely the best coffee in El Cotillo.

Acorralado: Great spanish Tapas
Nice little tapas bar „on the corner“ in the heart of El Cotillo. You will find a good selection of tapas. Recommendation: the red house wine called “vino tinto de la casa”. They have daily changing offers, for example 5 tapas in combination with a bottle of wine. This is a place where the locals eat as well which is always a hint for a good restaurant.

The Seahorse – Pub and Sportsbar in El Cotillo
Fancy playing some pool, watch the Champions League Soccer game and a cool guiness? The Seahorse is a typical sports bar, also offereing some food. Don’t expect too much, but the home made hamburgers and french fries always work well with a cool pint.

Pizzeria Marameo
Original italian Pizza. The owners, Chiara and Marco, are a really sweet couple from Italy. The Pizza is more for take-away than staying as it’s more a snack bar which shows in the interior. Still, if you decide to stay, the service is really good.

Café Central
Lovely setting with excellent food in quality and quantity all at a very reasonable price. The Tapas menu may seem a bit expensive until you get it. Don’t go here if you are on a diet or if you are in a hurry, as this is the perfect restaurant to sit and watch the world go by. All the food is freshly cooked by two people and served by two waiters. People wait around for a table as it is always packed which in our book is a sign of a good restaurant.

La Puntilla – home made Ice Cream
The ice cream parlour La Puntilla has delicious home-made ice cream and frozen yoghurt for before or after your El Cotillo beach experience (and maybe both). The shop is in walking distance from the Soul Surfer Hotel or the old harbour and faces the sea. Imagine strolling around in the sun with a freshly made ice cream… isn’t that what they call a “holiday”?
By the way, the fruity sorbets are often made without milk or cream, so it’s a great option for vegans!

La Marisma – Fish Restaurant
The best fish restaurant in town – the “New Marisma”. It now occupies a site (previously rundown) which overlooks the sea and has been considerably tidied up. It is now a very stylish restaurant with a great atmosphere and large panoramic windows from which you have wonderful views of the sunsets. The service at all times throughout the meal is attentive and first class. Whilst the prices might be slightly higher than the other restaurants in El Cotillo it is certainly worth a visit.

EL ROQUE DE LOS PESCADORES
Great fish, very friendly & comfortable – watch the sunset! The food is really good and reasonably priced. We recommend the Paella.
