Overview
Surfing paradise Fuerteventura
Good conditions all year round
Due to the trade winds, Fuerteventura usually has a constantly strong wind. Due to the comparatively low mountains on the island, the trade winds are hardly slowed down. As a result, the wind here is always a little stronger than on the other Canary Islands.Due to these geographical characteristics, Fuerteventura has beaches and places with varying degrees of wind.
Furthermore, the island never has temperatures below 20 degrees, which means you can leave your thick wetsuits in the wardrobe: The thick wetsuits can stay in the wardrobe. If you’re really brave, you can venture into the water without a wetsuit in the summer months, for example.

North, south, west, east – spots in every direction
La Pared, southwest La Pared is one of the most famous beaches for surfing in the south-west of Fuerteventura. This beach is known for being one of the most wave-safe spots in Fuerteventura and is ideal for beginners and advanced surfers alike. This beach is the perfect start for beginners, especially at low tide. The water is then shallow for many meters and there are large white water waves. These offer ideal conditions for practising standing up on the board and making your first turns while surfing.
Advanced surfers tend to wait until halfway up the tide in La Pared, as the best green waves in the bay often run from then until high tide.
Cruz Roja & Esquinzo – South
Cruz Roja is located near the Jandia lighthouse and offers beautiful waves, especially in the winter months. This beach is therefore also a favorite among surfing enthusiasts. While there are fewer waves in summer, this place turns into the surfing paradise Fuerteventura in winter with wave heights of usually 1 to 2 meters and sometimes over 3 meters.
Equinzo Beach
Esquinzo Beach (not to be confused with Playa Esquinzo in the north) is a well-known surf spot known for its constant wind waves.
Thanks to the trade winds, surfers find clean and manageable waves here. The smaller but clear waves are ideal for beginners and children and offer the perfect environment for learning to surf. Advanced surfers have the opportunity to practise surfing green waves here.
Punta Blanca – North
The well-known rising reef break Punta Blanca on the northwest coast of Fuerteventura offers both a right and a left wave. At high tide and with a north-easterly wind, the conditions for Punta Blanca are ideal. In the line up, after paddling about 50 meters, you will find broken and smaller green waves that are perfect for intermediates and longboarders. You can also take a break in between in the channel.
Piedra Playa – Northwest
Piedra Playa is located on the west coast of El Cotillo. The beach break consists of 4 bays with sandy ground. There are a few isolated stones here and there, but they are clearly visible. The beach is perfect for beginners and advanced surfers.
For beginners, there is a white water wave for every swell size where take-offs and first maneuvers can be practiced.
For advanced surfers, it depends heavily on the swell size, direction and wind: Piedra Playa conjures up everything from waist-high waves to clean barrels, but can also be very messy.
Sotavento – perfect for windsurfers and kitesurfers
The classic spot for kitesurfing and windsurfing is near Costa Calma: in the Sotavento lagoon, the wind probability is almost one hundred percent in summer. The knee-deep water is a great place to try kitesurfing for the first time. But the beach is not only interesting for beginners. The wind, wingfoil and kitesurfing world championships are also regularly held here on our beautiful island.
